Jesus Sanchez homered and delivered a walk-off two-run double to give the Miami Marlins an 8-7 win over the visiting Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Sanchez had three hits and four RBIs for Miami, which was down to its final out before Derek Hill hit a ground-rule double against Daniel Palencia (0-1). After Javier Sanoja drew a four-pitch walk, Sanchez followed with a two-run double to right field.
Valente Bellozo (1-2) pitched three scoreless innings of relief for Miami, which won its fourth game of the past five.
Miguel Amaya hit a three-run homer and added a two-run double for Chicago, which had its three-game win streak snapped.
Phillies 9, Rockies 3
Edmundo Sosa homered and finished with four hits, Alec Bohm hit a two-run homer and added a single, and Philadelphia beat struggling Colorado in Denver.
Kyle Schwarber homered off the facing of the third deck for the 300th of his career, Trea Turner had three hits and Joe Ross (2-1) pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Phillies, who have won four straight.
Ezequiel Tovar homered, singled and drove in two runs for the Rockies, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Reliever Seth Halvorsen (0-1) yielded four runs while getting just two outs in the eighth inning.
Reds 7, Pirates 1
Austin Hays and TJ Friedl each had three hits to back up a strong start from Nick Lodolo and lead Cincinnati to a victory at Pittsburgh.
The Reds matched a season-high five-game winning streak and improved to 4-0 against the Pirates this season. Lodolo (4-4) pitched six innings of one-run ball, and teammate Elly De La Cruz added two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
The Pirates, who lost their fourth game in a row, were held to four runs or fewer for the 24th consecutive contest. Mitch Keller (1-6) went six innings and allowed two runs (one earned).
Red Sox 3, Mets 1
Jarren Duran laced extra-base hits in each of the first two innings and a quartet of relief pitchers worked 4 1/3 scoreless frames to help Boston post a win over visiting New York.
Boston reliever Justin Wilson (2-0) followed starter Hunter Dobbins with a scoreless inning. Aroldis Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his seventh save. Carlos Narvaez had two hits.
New York starter Kodai Senga (4-3) yielded a season-high three earned runs in six innings. Tyrone Taylor collected two hits and drove in the Mets’ lone run.
Astros 4, Rays 3
Jake Meyers hit a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning as Houston opened a three-game series with a win at Tampa Bay.
Jeremy Pena finished 3-for-4 for the Astros. Meyers went 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base, and Victor Caratini hit a solo homer. Bryan King (2-0) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Josh Hader pitched around an error in the ninth for his 12th save.
The Rays’ Danny Jansen hit a two-run homer while Yandy Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Manuel Rodriguez (0-2) served up Meyers’ homer.
Mariners 5, White Sox 1
Julio Rodriguez belted an eighth-inning grand slam and Luis Castillo pitched seven shutout innings to lift visiting Seattle to a victory over Chicago.
Castillo (4-3) finished his outing by retiring 14 consecutive batters. Ben Williamson had three hits and scored two runs as the Mariners won their fourth straight game.
Davis Martin (2-5) pitched a career-best 7 1/3 innings and permitted two runs for the White Sox, who took their fifth loss in a row. Cam Booser allowed two Mariners to reach before giving up Rodriguez’s slam.
Brewers 5, Orioles 4
William Contreras singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning for his fourth hit of the game, carrying Milwaukee over visiting Baltimore. The Orioles lost their seven straight game.
In the eighth, Brice Turang (2-for-4, two RBIs) walked with two outs and stole second. Contreras then lined an RBI single up the middle off Yennier Cano (0-4) to plate Turang.
Brewers reliever Abner Uribe (2-0) struck out three in a scoreless eighth inning and Trevor Megill pitched the ninth for his seventh save. Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning with a three-run homer.
Cardinals 11, Tigers 4
Sonny Gray struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits in six scoreless innings as St. Louis routed Detroit.
Gray (5-1) walked just one in his 90-pitch outing. Ivan Herrera, Jordan Walker and Pedro Pages drove in two runs each for the Cardinals, who have posted 13 victories in the past 15 games. After a six-run seventh, the St. Louis led 11-0.
The Tigers opened with left-hander Sean Guenther (0-1), who allowed a first-inning run. Dillon Dingler had a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Royals 3, Giants 1
Kris Bubic pitched seven shutout innings, Vinnie Pasquantino broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run in the eighth and Kansas City opened a three-game road series against San Francisco with a victory.
Bubic (5-2) matched zeros with Robbie Ray before the Giants switched over to Tyler Rogers (2-2) to start the eighth. Jonathan India’s one-out double set the stage for Pasquantino, who socked his eighth homer of the season.
Ray, who entered 6-0 through nine starts this season, limited the Royals to six hits in his seven innings. Bubic permitted just two hits. Carlos Estevez handled the ninth inning for his 14th save.
Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 5
Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Gabriel Moreno and Geraldo Perdomo each hit a two-run home run as visiting Arizona earned a victory over Los Angeles.
Brandon Pfaadt (7-3) gave up three runs on three hits over six innings as the Diamondbacks improved to 5-1 at Los Angeles since May 21, 2024. Shelby Miller got the last out for his fifth save.
Mookie Betts hit two home runs and Shohei Ohtani added his major-league-leading 17th as the Dodgers saw their losing streak extend to a season-high four games.
Angels 4, Athletics 3
Taylor Ward hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Jose Soriano won for the first time since April 10 as Los Angeles notched a victory over the Athletics in West Sacramento, Calif.
Ward has homered in three consecutive games and four of his past five, with his latest giving Los Angeles a 4-2 lead in the third inning. Nolan Schanuel also homered among three hits while helping the Angels match their season best of four straight wins. Soriano (3-4) allowed three runs and six hits over six innings.
Shea Langeliers and Brent Rooker had RBIs for the Athletics, who have lost a season-worst six consecutive games and 10 of their past 12.
Guardians 2, Twins 1 (fourth inning, suspended)
The game between Cleveland and Minnesota was suspended at the start of the fourth inning because of inclement weather in Minneapolis.
The contest will resume, weather permitting, late Tuesday afternoon. The teams will start the regularly scheduled Tuesday game approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Kyle Manzardo drove in a run for the Guardians in the first inning before the Twins got RBI hits from Ty France and Willi Castro in the first and second innings, respectively.
