Braves beat D-backs in 10 despite 4 HRs by Eugenio Suarez

Matt Olson scored on Justin Martinez’s wild pitch in the 10th inning and the Atlanta Braves overcame Eugenio Suarez’ four-homer game for an 8-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Saturday.

Suarez homered in the second, fourth, sixth and ninth innings — the last one tying the game and forcing extra innings — to become the 19th player in major league history with four homers in a game. But the D-backs were unable to score in their half of the 10th in losing their fourth straight.

Suarez led off the ninth with a homer to tie the game at 7-7, but the D-Backs were unable to score against while losing their fourth straight.

Olson, starting the 10th on second base, moved to third on a leadoff groundout then scored on Martinez’s one-out wild pitch. The run is the first Martinez (1-1) has allowed in 10 appearances this season.

Tim Tawa reached third with one in the last of the 10th before Geraldo Perdomo and Randal Grichuk grounded out off Dylan Lee to end the game. Grichuk was originally ruled safe on his grounder to deep third base but the call was overturned after review.

Raisel Iglesias (1-2) got the win and Lee his first career save.

Outfielder J.D. Martinez is the only other Arizona player with four homers in a game, accomplishing the feat Sept. 4, 2017 in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. It was the most recent four-homer game in the majors.

Atlanta trailed 6-2 before Eli White’s two-run homer in the seventh. Michael Harris II hit a two-out, two-run double to cap a three-run eighth against Jalen Beeks for a 7-6 lead.

White has two homers and seven RBIs in his last three games. The Braves have won three in a row and seven of eight.

Marcell Ozuna had a homer among two hits, Sean Murphy also homered, and Ozzie Albies had two hits and scored twice.

Gabriel Moreno had a two-run single in the fourth to give Arizona its first lead, and Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly gave up two runs and four hits in six innings. Arizona has lost four in a row

Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes gave up six runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.
