Rangers’ bats break out in 15-2 rout of Athletics

Adolis Garcia and Wyatt Langford both had a three-RBI double in the sixth inning as the Texas Rangers broke out of their scoring slump in a huge way in a 15-2 win over the Athletics on Tuesday in the second of a four-game American League West series in Arlington, Texas.

The collective sigh that was heard out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was created by the Rangers’ highest scoring game of the season – by far. Texas’ biggest scoring output of 2025 had come in an 8-5 win versus the Athletics on the road on April 22; the Rangers matched that in just the sixth inning when they stepped on home plate eight times, breaking open a contest they already led 4-0 before waltzing to the win.

Texas entered the game with the fewest runs (87) in the majors but scored more times than in its previous six games combined (12).

The offensive explosion helped Texas starter Jacob deGrom (1-1) earn his first victory since April 23, 2023 when he also beat the Athletics. He made just nine starts over the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to major arm issues.

On Tuesday, deGrom pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven and not walking a batter. Dane Dunning earned his first save of the season as he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while pitching the final three innings.

Every Rangers player had at least one hit in the season-high 18-hit attack, led by three hits each by Leody Taveras, Josh Smith and Marcus Semien. Kyle Higashioka also had a three-run double in the victory.

Jacob Lopez (0-1), making his first start of the season, allowed three runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. Shea Langeliers had a two-run homer in the seventh to account for the only Athletics’ runs.

Texas got on the board in the second when Smith’s two-out single to right field drove home Jake Burger, who had reached by getting hit by a pitch by Lopez.

Back to back singles by the Rangers’ Jonah Heim and Semien opened the third inning before Lopez struck out Josh Jung and Garcia. Burger then delivered a single to right field that plated Heim, and Taveras followed with another single that allowed Semien to scamper home and make it 3-0.

Texas added to the lead in the fourth as Jung ripped a two-out single to left off Hogan Harris that drove in Heim.

That set the stage for the Rangers’ huge sixth inning.
