Colts T Anthony Castonzo retires after 10 seasons

Veteran Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo announced his retirement on Tuesday.

The Colts selected him with the No. 22 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, and he started all 144 of his regular-season games with the franchise.

“I have given much to the game of football, but it has given me so much more,” Castonzo said. “I close the book on the football chapter of my life gifted with memories and moments I wouldn’t trade for anything.”

He played 100 percent of the team’s snaps in 2019 but suffered through injuries in 2020. He missed one game with a rib injury, one more with an MCL sprain and then two more after a ligament injury to an ankle required surgery.

“Anthony was a pillar of this team for the last 10 seasons,” general manager Chris Ballard said. “He played one of the toughest positions in the game at an extremely high level for a long time. Anthony was a veteran leader in our locker room and will be greatly missed.”

Castonzo anchored an offensive line charged with protecting quarterback Andrew Luck and others, as well as opening holes for 1,000-yard rushers Frank Gore and Marlon Mack.

“Anthony deserves a tremendous amount of credit for helping our offensive line mature into one of the best units in the NFL. He will sorely be missed,” owner Jim Irsay said.

And Castonzo, 32, said he will miss the team he played 144 games for, too.

“The Indianapolis Colts is a special organization with special ownership who fill the organization with special people at every level. I truly believe this is the best organization in all of sports,” he said. “I am lucky to have been able to call myself a Colt for the past ten years and will consider myself a Colt for the rest of my life.”
